About Us
StopBadware.org is a "Neighborhood Watch" campaign aimed at fighting badware. We will seek to provide reliable, objective information about downloadable applications in order to help consumers to make better choices about what they download on to their computers. We aim to become a central clearinghouse for research on badware and the bad actors who spread it, and to become a focal point for developing collaborative, community-minded approaches to stopping badware.

Harvard Law School\’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society and Oxford University\’s Oxford Internet Institute are leading this initiative with the support of several prominent tech companies, including Google, Lenovo, and Sun Microsystems. Consumer Reports WebWatch is serving as an unpaid special advisor.

John Palfrey, Executive Director of the Berkman Center and Harvard Clinical Professor of Law, and Jonathan Zittrain, Harvard Law Visiting Professor and Professor of Internet Governance and Regulation at Oxford University, are StopBadware.org co-directors. Supporting them are an advisory board and working group made up of some of the top experts in the field, including Internet pioneers Esther Dyson and Vint Cerf.

What is badware?
Badware is software that behaves in malicious and/or deceptive ways and is commonly referred to as spyware, malware, and deceptive adware. If you download badware to your computer you may experience numerous pop-up ads; software installed without your permission or software difficult to uninstall; software that includes Trojan horses, stealth dialers, keyloggers, and viruses; slowed computer processing or even crashing; and in some cases, your privacy may be violated and abused when personal information is collected without your permission. 据路透社报道，Google本周五携手安全联盟StopBadware共同推出了该项服务。当用点击Google搜索结果页面所提供的链接时，如果该链接存在潜在风险，那么系统将自动弹出警告。

目前，StopBadware正在完善数据库，因此并不是所有的网页都能给出详细提示。StopBadware表示：“希望该服务完善后，能够为网民创造更加安全可靠的网络环境。”

据悉，StopBadware.org是由Google、联想、Sun、美国《消费者调查报告》杂志、哈佛大学法学院伯克曼网络与社会中心，以及牛津大学网络学院于今年1月联合成立的反恶意软件联盟。

如果你获得的搜索页面结果有页面和Google恶意网站列表对应，当你点击该搜索结果时，Google会首先把你引向警告页面

Securityfocus报道，数个学术机构和主要IT公司联合起来反抗有害软件，并创造了和spyware以及adware类似的新名词——badware。　　

　　由哈佛大学博克门中心以及牛津互联网学院牵头，并获得了Google、联想以及Sun Microsystems等公司的支持的StopBadware.org目前已经上线，该组织将致力于“为消费者提供可靠且有针对性的信息，帮助他们更好地选择下载到电脑中的程序。”和微软、赛门铁克、雅虎、Computer Associates和AOL等公司创立的“Anti-Spyware Coalition（反间谍软件同盟）”不同，StopBadware联盟试图从更加基层的角度，和社区合作来对抗有害软件。 　　

　　hmm，这个消息对于身受有害软件困挠的互联网用户来说无疑是个好消息，不过现在表示有害软件的英文单词越来越多，也颇让人头疼，我们已经有spyware、adware、scumware、malware、parasiteware、stealware，现在又来个badware，他们就不能统一以下说法吗？
Google联想等组建反恶意软件联盟

电脑已不再是病毒的天下，即使是电脑普通用户，通过防火墙和杀毒软件，我们完全可以把一般的病毒清除出去。流氓软件，通过捆绑，网站恶意代码等形式，如幽魂一样附着在我们的电脑上。成千上万的电脑使用者不得不忍受着每次打开浏览器面对一大堆广告，或者每次都被引导到一个他所不想去的站点。

夺回我们电脑的控制权！

Google以及其他愿意Don\’t Be Evil的组织共同建立了一个叫Stop Badware的项目，这个项目是由哈佛伯克曼中心，牛津互联网学院，CRW，Google，联想，SUN以各种不同的形式参与而建立起来的。

通过项目的Web站点，用户可以报告关于流氓软件的信息。考虑到用户并非都是计算机领域的专家，StopBadWare提供了两个Fight Back页面，一个是报告遭受流氓软件骚扰的经历，另外一个提交关于流氓软件的具体技术参数。

StopBadWare根据用户提交的数据以及各种技术手段，对一个软件进行评估和测试。当一个软件被认定为流氓软件的时候，StopBadWare将会公开该软件的各种技术统计以及阻止该软件的各种方法。

StopBadWare的站点上有一个合法软件标准草案。该草案可以用来作为判断一个软件是否为流氓软件的标准。
